If you try to create a new release, you might receive the following error with no obvious instruction on how to rectify it.
We weren't able to create the release for you. Make sure you have a valid tag.

This error, however, comes about if you are yet to create a tag from when you pushed your changes.
You can create your tag right within the GitHub interface.
You can do this by filling out your release version in the "Choose a tag" dropdown, as shown in the illustration above.
