Just like a real-world address is used to locate a physical building, an Internet Protocol Address is used to find the location of a server [→] and its hosted resource over the internet.
The internet can be described as a bunch of computers in different locations connected by wires and to reach a specific computer you use its IP Address.
These computers can be servers that host websites. Typically a user types in a Domain Name [→] which is then resolved in the background to an IP address using a DNS [→] server, the IP Address is then used to locate the requested website.
